“Sustainable fashion is not a trend but the future.”
– Antonia Böhlke –
Fashion is now changing in order to adjust to customer´s demands but most important to answers to the call of environmental responsabilty. But, what is sustainable fashion?

Sustainable fashion is a movement which consists of changing the fast or traditional fashion industry by creating products that respect the environment and support social justice.

Fast fashion is the industry in which very affordable products are created rapidly by mass retailers without respecting the environment and social justice in order to satisfy the trends.
In general, as consumers, we do not pay much attention to what is behind a product, we mainly look at our pockets and find the best price. However, we do not realize that we buy more than a product with our money. With our purchases, we impact the society and the environment, basically the world itself. This is when sustainable fashion comes in.
Sustainable fashion, different from fast or traditional fashion industry, does not pursue to offer the cheapest possible price at any cost. This means that the products made by companies operating in this industry follow some specific standards. These are some of the main standards that sustainable fashion companies follow:
- Work with suppliers that meet their national employment laws and regulation: minimum age of employment, wages, safety and health, etc.
- Use of environmentally friendly raw materials and reduce the amount used
- Produce long lasting products.
- Reduce carbon footprint in distribution process
Things are changing, today´s fashion customers want to see what is behind their purchases. Thus, they want products and companies that align with their values and ideas. The society is leaning towards a more sustainable world which is why fashion companies need to adjust their business models in order to stay in the industry.
As the internationally known fashion expert Antonia Böhlke states, “sustainable fashion is not a trend but the future”.
